Alexa came onto the German market for the first time in 2016 in Amazon’s Echo Smart Speakers. Many of the Alexa functions are also available for smartphones. If you don’t feel like Siri, Bixby, or the Google Assistant (Guide), you can get the Alexa app from the respective stores of smartphones and tablets with Android, iOS, or FireOS.

The smartphone app is also the central control hub for Alexa users: Here you set up the Amazon devices such as the Smart Speaker Echo 4 (test) or the Smart Display Echo Show 8 (test), create routines, or activate multiroom. In this Alexa guide, we explain what that is, how you deal with it, and which basics you still need to know.

Tap on the plus symbol in the top right corner and then on “Add device“. Alexa will then suggest popular brands such as Philips Hue or Tuya. For example, if you want to connect a Philips Hue lightbulb to Alexa, tap on “Lamp” and then select the brand of the device.

Once you have screwed the lamp into the socket, switch it on and wait a moment. To put the smart lightbulb into pairing mode, the light quickly turns off and on again.
